Dr. Elon Richman is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in New York City.
Dr. Richman is board certified in both general and addiction psychiatry, with expertise in the treatment of substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychotic disorders and attention deficit disorder. In his private practice, he is dedicated to helping individuals enhance their self-awareness and self-regulation through evidence-based treatments that integrate psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, mindfulness and lifestyle interventions. There are many paths to healing and Dr. Richman’s treatment philosophy emphasizes the transformative power of a collaborative relationship to guide clients toward growth and lasting insight.
Dr. Richman completed his general psychiatry residency at Emory University School of Medicine, with additional training and certification through the Emory Psychoanalytic Institute and the Institute for Dialogic Practice. He subsequently completed fellowship training in addiction psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and associate medical director of the House Staff Mental Health Program and Medical Student Mental Health Service. Dr. Richman continues to supervise trainees and teach on issues related to substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. His scholarly work focuses on the emerging field of psychedelics, with academic publications featured in journals including The American Journal of Psychiatry and Journal of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Richman’s practice style is also greatly informed by network therapies such as Open Dialogue and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). In person and remote visits are available.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Richman will conduct a comprehensive review of mental and physical health, family history and any prior treatment experiences. Concerned family members and friends are also welcome to attend. A treatment plan will be outlined at this visit.
Dr. Richman does not participate with insurance and is opted-out of Medicare. He can provide itemized bills and other paperwork required for reimbursement with out of network benefits.
